WCW Saturday Night

September, Week 2, Year 1

Pensacola, FL

Two weeks ahead of their big WCW World Heavyweight Championship match at the WCW/Japan Supershow, WCW World Heavyweight Champion, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair ’88 and “The Dragon” Tatsumi Fujinami will have a face to face meeting in the ring!

Match #1

Normal

Larry Zbyszko vs Michael “P.S.” Hayes

Winner by pinfall: Michael “P.S.” Hayes (Piledriver)(3 ½ Great)

Post: Zbyszko leaves as Hayes celebrates in the ring. Hayes sees this and grabs Zbyszko before ramming him into the steel steps.

Review: Legendary tag team wrestler, Michael Hayes defeated legendary singles wrestler, Larry Zbyszko. A big singles win for “The Freebird” here. However, there is no doubt that Zbyszko will be seeking a rematch here. When that happens, will Hayes be able to pick up another big win and make a big statement in the singles division?

Match #2

Normal

Jimmy “Jam” Garvin vs Earthquake

Winner by pinfall: Jimmy “Jam” Garvin (Brainbuster)

Review: With this victory, Jimmy “Jam” is officially on a winning streak in the singles division. There are now two or three competitors above Garvin in the WCW singles ranks. If Garvin keeps it up then it won’t be long until he’s challenging for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

WCW United States Champion, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat wishes Sting ’88 and The British Bulldog both luck in their #1 Contender’s match. Steamboat shakes Sting’s hand as The British Bulldog refuses a handshake and tells Steamboat to hold on to his luck because he’s going to need once the Bulldog comes after that WCW United States Championship.

Match #3

#1 Contender’s Match for the WWE United States Championship

Normal

Sting ’88 vs British Bulldog

Winner by submission and #1 Contender: Sting ’88 (Scorpion Death Lock)(4* Amazing)

Post: Bulldog approaches Sting and motions to Sting that he is approaching in peace. Bulldog then offers a handshake that Sting accepts. Bulldog pulls no tricks here. Just respect.

Review: This was both Superstar’s last match on WCW Saturday Night as Sting ’88 is headed to World Class Championship Wrestling as part of a talent agreement between WCW and WCCW. British Bulldog is now exclusive to WCW Nitro (as well as WWE’s Golden Era brand). Sting will head to World Class with some momentum with this victory.

Cactus Jack and DDP are interviewed and say that they are the greatest and most dangerous tag team in professional wrestling. No matter where they are or where they go, they take over the place and take all of the gold. They add that Sting and Lex Luger better not take them lightly because tonight, Cactus Jack and Diamond Dallas Page are about to show them why they aren’t to be trifled with.

Match #4

#1 Contender’s Match for the WCW World Tag Team Championships

Tag Team

Sting ’91 & Lex Luger vs Cactus Jack ’92 & DDP ’92

Winners and #1 Contenders: Sting ’91 & Lex Luger (Scorpion Death Lock on DDP from Sting)

Review: Sting and Lex Luger will now head to the WCW/Japan Supershow to face the WCW World Tag Team Champions, The Fabulous Freebirds. The Freebirds are one of the most legendary tag teams in history. On the flipside, it’s common knowledge that Sting and Luger are great friends. However, are they a great tag team? Capturing the WCW World Tag Team Championships will certainly silence any doubt!

Match #5

In-Ring Brawl

Ric Flair ’88 vs Tatsumi Fujinami

Winner: Ric Flair

Review: This would have been a fancy in-ring promo followed by a brawl but Storyline Designer is once again not a part of this game so we’ll have to make due with the brawl part. “The Nature Boy” gets the better of “The Dragon” in this encounter. This isn’t good for Fujinami who looks to have obtained an injury to his back. Will this be a bad omen for Fujinami and cash in the bank for Flair? We’ll find out at WCW/Japan Supershow!

NEWS

INJURY REPORT

Tatsumi Fujinami has suffered a minor back injury during his match, although doctors have cleared him to continue competing.
