The New Day kick off SmackDown and talk about their match in the main event of tonight’s SmackDown. They will be competing in a Quarter-Finals bout in the WWE Tag Team Championship Tournament against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. They make fun of Owens and Zayn until they are interrupted by them. Kevin and Sami talk about how they are set out to make SmackDown the “Kevin and Sami Show”. They outline their mission of proving that they are the best that the WWE have to offer and that involves winning this WWE Tag Team Championship Tournament and prove that they are the greatest force in the WWE. Furthermore, they plan to capture every other form of gold in the WWE from the WWE Championship to the WWE Intercontinental Championship to the WWE United States Championship. The New Day continue to make fun of them and ask them when they’ll challenge for the WWE Women’s Championship because they hear that the WWE Women’s Champion, Charlotte is no joke. Sami and Kevin don’t find The New Day funny. As a matter of fact, there is nothing new about the New Day. The only true “New Day” in the WWE is the (re-)union of Kevin and Sami. If Kofi, Big E and Xavier call themselves The New Day then Owens and Zayn are the “New Generation” of the WWE and they will prove that right here tonight in the main event of SmackDown!

Up first on SmackDown, it’s action from the heated WWE Tag Team Championship Tournament as The Shield take on The Ascension in the Quarter-Final round!

Nikki Bella (w/Brie Bella) vs Tamina

Winner: Nikki Bella (3* Very Good)

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson will stop at nothing to take over the WWE tag team division. It’s no secret that they are considered the best tag team in the world . They have won seemingly every tag team championship in the world and there is only one set of tag team championships left to capture and that is the WWE Tag Team Championships. That is why they think it’s funny when they hear people actually believe that Breezango stand a chance against them.

Breezango cut the exact same promo that Gallows and Anderson just did. They say that they (aka The Fashion Police) will stop at nothing to gain total jurisdiction of the WWE. It’s no secret that they are considered to be the most fashionable tag team in the world. They have traveled everywhere and tried on every fashionable ensemble there is to try but there is now only one fashion item for them to try on and that is the WWE Tag Team Championships.

They will in a Triple Threat Match, now also involving Brie Bella at WWE Payback in three weeks.

WWE Intercontinental Champion, Dolph Ziggler is interviewed and talks about what he had to endure to become Intercontinental Champion. He went to battle against seven other Superstars including The Big Show. If he can handle all of that then whoever the #1 Contender is for his Intercontinental Championship after tonight better get ready. AJ Styles steps in and says that the Intercontinental Championship was the very first piece of WWE gold that he won when he first arrived on the scene here in the WWE. He had some fierce battles for that title and would go on to regain it two more times. He tells Ziggler that he’s about to regain it a third time at Payback after tonight. John Cena comes out to address his assault at the hands of Baron Corbin on RAW this past Monday. He refuses to shake it off and move on and calls out “The Lone Wolf”. Corbin obliges but takes his sweet time coming down to the ring. Corbin buried Cohasset and Boston and calls it a giant dump before attempting to bully Cena by telling him what to do such as getting out of “his ring” and returning to the back where he belongs. Cena reminds him who the rookie and who the veteran is before also reminding Corbin of what happened when they faced off inside of this ring. Corbin then reminds Cena which one of them had the last laugh on RAW on Monday. Cena advises Corbin NOT to request a rematch because that would be a bad career move. One loss to Cena is expected but a sweep at the hands of “The Franchise” of the WWE? That wouldn’t be a sound career move for Corbin. “The Lone Wolf” says that Cena is the coward in this situation by trying to make it sound like he’s doing Baron a favor but Cena’s time is up and Corbin’s time is now (Cena chuckles at this). Corbin then challenges Cena to a rematch right here tonight. Cena takes off his shirt and dog tags before Baron says that he forgot where he was for a second and he doesn’t want to give some no-name place like Cohasset, MA a big rematch like this. Corbin prefers the rematch take place at WWE Payback.

As a result, Regal has been inserted into the WCW World Heavyweight Championship Match at WCW Spring Stampede, thus making it a Triple Threat Match.
